Employment & Internships

DVS is no longer accepting fall internships. All interns must complete the advocacy training before beginning their internship. We accept a limited number of un-paid internship and practicum students, including WorkStudy positions.  If you are interested in internship, please contact the program director at 735-1295.

All DVS staff and volunteers (excluding childcare workers) must complete 20-hours of Advocacy Training before working directly with clients, per WAC 388-61A-0150.

See a general job description for an advocate.

Employment Requirements:

1. Pre-Employment Criminal Background Checks:

In considering an applicant for hire, DVS may investigate the applicant’s background. The investigation may include, but is not limited to, inquiries into the applicant’s references, credit and criminal history. An applicant may not be denied employment solely on the basis of a poor credit history and may not be denied employment for having filed bankruptcy. A charge, arrest, or conviction (Criminal History) may but will not automatically bar an applicant from employment.

2. Pre-Employment Drug Screening Testing:

All selected applicants who are offered employment may be required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening test, conducted at DVS’ expense, to be considered for and offered employment.

3. Pre-Employment Department of Motor Vehicle Driving Record (DMV):

All selected applicants who are offered employment must possess a positive pre-employment DMV Driving Record.  Such applicants must also possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver’s License during employment.

4. Revocation of Job Offer/Termination of Employment:

Where an applicant fails any of these requirements, DVS may revoke a job offer or terminate employment.

DVS strives to provide equal opportunity to all employees, and applicants for employment, without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital status, veteran status, disability and any other characteristic protected by law.
